(Movie Review by Chad Langen) Prior to seeing the trailer for “I Know Who Killed Me”, I had already read up on the premise and several other details pertaining to the film. I’m sure I’m not the only person who could care less as to whether or not star Lindsay Lohan succeeds (I don’t feel I need to go into any details regarding my reasons), but the film looked entertaining none the less thus I found myself in the midst of an empty theater opening day.
Now usually I would read reviews from critics having already seen the film and that’s where I became a bit skeptical. Not only was the film not screened for critics, but few entertainment websites had reviewed the film either. I should have listened to my instincts right then and there, but being the crazed film buff I am, I went to see the film anyway. I think the titled speaks for itself in this case, “˜I Know Who Killed Me’ and it was the studio stupid enough to put this pile of crap on the big screen.
The film centers on a young woman, Aubrey Flemming (portrayed by the seemingly popular Lindsay Lohan), who finds herself kidnapped and tortured by an unseen killer. Parents and friends are heartbroken while the police assume that the kidnapper is the same person who dismembered a woman’s body just weeks before. Soon, Aubrey is able to escape where her discovery is kept under wraps from the general public in order to prevent raising fear amongst town citizens. However, Aubrey’s turn up becomes even more mysterious when she claims that her name is Dakota and the real Aubrey is still in mortal danger.
The film starts off interesting, but loses its grip on the audience due to poor dialogue and unnecessary flashbacks. During the last segment of the film, the writer tries to be clever in introducing a new twist in order to cover up the fact that he had no idea where the story was going, but in my opinion it was an utter waste. And the final twist is just a slap on the knee. I predicted the killer’s identity before the film reached its halfway runtime. Is that sad or what?
To be perfectly honest, “I Know Who Killed Me” had the quality of a Cinemax original movie. The editing was a mess, the direction was a joke and the actors weren’t once used to their full potential.
Long story short, “I Know Who Killed Me” is another waste of cinema space. You’d be better off snagging a copy of the film when it hits DVD shelves. At least there you can press the stop button instead of beating yourself over the head because you wasted a hard earned seven bucks.
