I Spit On Your Grave Remake News!

Sarah ButlerThat’s right, your favourite female revenge movie is getting the Hollywood treatment. Of course it’s being remade, the film has achieved a certain notoriety as a result of it’s shocking nature, it would be foolish to not to resurrect it and rape it (sorry) for financial gain.

We all understand that Hollywood is going to remake every film that may pull an audience until there are none left, and I think it’s time to accept it and roll with the banal punches. So, ‘I Spit On Your Grave’ is the next one on the chopping block. For those not familiar with the plot, a woman is abducted, raped, brutalized and left for dead. She isn’t dead, though, and she spends the rest of the film exacting twisted revenge on her abusers.

Anchor Bay’s remake is being shot in Shreveport, LA, with Steven Monroe directing (I’d never heard of him either. ‘Sasquatch Mountain’? No? ‘Dual’? Ah never mind), and Sarah Butler taking on the role of Jennifer (She’s been in a couple of episodes of CSI, but on the plus side, she’s hot!).  As far as remakes go, I’m actually quite excited about this one, they haven’t thrown big names into it, and Steven Monroe has told Moviehole.net, “We wanted to stay as true to the original as possible while making sure it was updated in a few ways.” This is a good sign, and to be frank, the original wasn’t exactly a breathtaking piece of cinema, and as long as the key elements  are in there (woman gets raped and beaten, then goes ape-shit), who cares about the rest of the plot? They could put wise-cracking alien bacon sandwiches in there and it wouldn’t make any difference.

What I’m trying to say is, for some reason I’ve been swept up in the buzz of this one, if only because the original would probably have been all but forgotten if it wasn’t for it’s ‘previously banned’ status, how can they fuck up what was only a mediocre film to start with. My bet here, is that this one is actually going to be pretty good.

I’m going to close on this fantastic quote from Steven Monroe, “There are also a lot of horror fans out there already complaining that the cast is all no names, I can personally guarantee you that no actress with a name would have had the guts to pull off what Sarah did or went through during shooting, no way. She is awesome.”
