With Relativity’s still-untitled “Snow White” movie casting actual dwarfs to play the seven dwarfs in their version of the famous fairy tale, it appears Universal’s “Snow White and Huntsman” is going the opposite direction. Or at least, I’m assuming that’s the case, unless they plan on digitally “dwarfing” Ian McShane, who, while not a giant onscreen, is no dwarf in real life.
Heat Vision reports that McShane (currently terrorizing Johnny Depp and the seas in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) has signed on to play Caesar, the leader of the seven dwarfs. In “Snow White and the Huntsman”, the “re-envisioned” dwarfs up assisting the exiled Snow White (“Twilight’s” Kristen Stewart) in order to regain her kingdom from her evil stepmother, to be played by Charlize Theron. Also helping out Universal’s version of Snow White will be Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, playing the titular Huntsman of the title.
“Snow White and the Huntsman” will be directed by Rupert Sanders, and the production is well behind Relativity’s “Snow White” movie, which is already shooting. Sanders’ “Huntsman” will commence production sometime this August for a June 1, 2012 release date.
