Need a king? You could do worse than Ian McShane, who has signed on to star as the king in Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer”, his big-budget “re-imagining” of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairytale.
McShane, fresh off playing the villainous Blackbeard in the most recent “Pirates of the Caribbean” entry, will play King Brahmwell, whose daughter the Princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) is abducted, setting off a chain of events that has farmboy hero Jack (Nicholas Hoult) going off to rescue her, an act that threatens the peace between the humans and Giants.
The cast also includes Ewan McGregor as the head of the King’s guards, and Stanley Tucci as the villain, who also happens to be the King’s advisor. Methinks he does some bad advising. Bill Nighy and John Kassir round out the cast as two heads of one giant.
