Looks like Idris Elba post-“Thor” has found himself a wanted man. Which is a shame, as the guy has been doing killer stuff for years, but I guess it took a major Hollywood blockbuster (a supporting role, no less) to finally get the man his due. Oh well, better late than never. (By the way — too bad “Thor” couldn’t come before Elba lost the “Alex Cross” gig to the cross-dressing dude.)
In any case, Idris Elba’s name is now surfacing for a couple of juicy parts. The Wrap says Elba is being considered for a major role alongside “Sons of Anarchy’s” Charlie Hunnam in Guillermo Del Toro’s sci-fi epic “Pacific Rim”. No word on what the role would be, but “Rim” is set in a future in which an alien attack threatens the existence of earth, forcing humans to battle the nasty and brutal creatures by piloting giant robots. Mechas, if you will.
Elba is also surfacing as a possible candidate for Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti Western, “Django Unchained”, a role that Tarantino has already said he’d love to cast Will Smith for. Then again, Smith is picky with his roles, and I’m not entirely sure he’ll do something that’s so out of his wheelhouse. Elba, on the other hand, would kill as a slave turned gunslinger looking to save his wife. Samuel L. Jackson and Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds'” star Christoph Waltz are also rumored for roles in the film.
