The first image from French director Chris Nahon’s live-action remake of the Japanese anime “Blood: The Last Vampire” has finally surfaced on the net via Jeon Ji Hyun Online, who posted this black and white image from the movie (thumbnail to your left, bigger version below) and a couple of behind-the-scenes images of Jeon Ji Hyun in action. It looks like a template for an upcoming movie poster, although I hope not, because the image, well, doesn’t exactly pop, even if they added color. Then again, it could just be a test image or something benign like that, so there’s really no point in reading too much into it.

A vampire named Saya, who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon is disguise.

The film will mark the English-language debut of Korean superstar Jeon Ji-hyun, here working under the name Gianna Jun. “Blood: The Last Vampire” co-stars Allison Miller, Masiela Lusha, Colin Salmon, and Koyuki, and is scheduled for a 2008 release.

Gianna Jun looks great as Saya, the image of her by the train looks like its jumped straight out of the anime. Hope the actual movie can live upto the quality of the original.

  • Jim says:

I freaked out when i heard about the live action movie !!!Gianna will make an awesome Saya.Hrmmmm……i haven’t seen any news about who else is in the movie. For instance…Haji….Ryku….Kai…etc….if anyone has any news please let me know.Oh BTW on Monday December 17th @11:00pm Pacific time, the Sci-fi channel is going to show the animated Blood:The last vampire (which i have yet to see…CANT WAIT till monday)

  • Jaylynn says:

UGh i’m sooo disappointed. they made “gianna” jun look really bad in the movie. it looks like they just grabbed some random japanese/asian school girl from high school. I’ve seen WAAAYYY better aya cosplays and they’re amatures too so what is up with this cast… Also it said the majority of the movie is in english. this better not be like memoirs of a geisha with bad broken english. I seriously cant take those movies seriously. I love Blood the Last vampire and Blood+ and i’m definitely going to see this movie in theaters even if it gets crappy review s and what not. but enough with my rambling. just saying the images are a HUGE disappointment to me. :(

haah ya i never have high hopes for live action films.. they simply can’t recreate or deliver the artistic aspects intended by the original creators.

  • stel says:

i mean even a screen full of spilled blood would look good in an anime because it’s art.. how are you gonna recreate the same touch for every single drop of liquid blood in live action film, or make a good 3D rework that seems authentic? you simply can’t with today’s skills.. one day the skills will finally catch up perhaps.. and we can have good live action films.. perhaps by 3d animators.

    • Charys says:

If there were 3d animators reworking it… It would still be an animation though really… To be honest, I think re-making anything thats already there is a bit of a silly idea. It’s just pointless repetition in the end. But, If they are going to re-do it, Why would they keep it the same as the origional? Then it would just be a copy… not a remake. Technically its not even trying to recreate… It’s just the same story line. An adaptation… I’m going to be quiet now because in all honesty i’m not that bothered. Just wait, watch it and then complain. Or, don’t bother seeing it at all. It’s not going to be the end of the world.

  • unknown. says:

ohhhhh guys.. just shut up dont complain.. people are working hard to make a movie more beacutiful and interesting your discriminating peoples ability why dont you do it. dah if you have an idea suggest dont complain dont be stupid why does people always like that anime is different from action films that is why they are working hard to make it more real if you are the directory what are you going to do? you just complain and complain. love movies dont hate it. hello if you say its a crappy one dont watch it. no one is perfect in term of pronunciation, accent and grammar niether you. they want jeon ji hyun to be like that to make the story more beautiful and realistic why you want a slayer wearing gown and a crown. go ahead and ask the director of blood to do that. dah kagahod sa inyo mas gwapa pa c jeon ji hyun sa inyu daw mga ano kamo cge ka riklamo aghiripos kamo dira wla kamo sang mabuhat.

    • Nene says:

ilonggo ka gali??? baw ka gwapa gwapa ni jun ji hyun bla!!!! when will be the showing(the real huh) of this movie pala????

  • luna says:

..ei..i like jun to be saya..and jim, there will be no kai nad riku because the setting is way back then.they don’t exist yet.I don’t know if they will be including hagi since he’s not in the original blood:the last vampire movie. But koyuki i heard will be playing DIVA.here’s my point..are they suppose to be twins?why jun and koyuki?Diva is not in the movie too but i’m delighted to hear they’ll be adding her.But why koyuki?sigh….

  • Rod says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t Winona Ryder fit the look of Saya? Hair, build, eyes? I’d love to hear her speak in Japanese…lol. Anyway, just as excited to see how it’ll turn out… Peace.. :)

  • jtlangel says:

Uh. The actress is a korean actress Jeon-Ji Hyun who is very famous in Asia right now. I’ve always wondered why Americans always cast Asian actors to play a different race than their own? For example, a korean girl playing a Japanese girl. WTF, there is a difference in races man. COME ON!

  • SOLILOQUY says:

That’s the problem with making a movie…a lot of people have way too much opinion on what should be and what not. if we could all just shut our traps and let them do what they have to do then we’d all have a movie…good or bad! And what’s with this race thing?????!!!!!…IT’S A F*****G MOVIE!..it’s supposed to use a cast…that’s why it’s called a cast of actors…THEY ACT!…sheesh…when will people grow up.
Anyway, I love the anime and am looking forward to seeing the movie before making any personal comments on efforts given by people who want to entertain an audience.
