Inevitable Sequel News Alert: Piranha 3D

Of course Dimension Films are already talking up a “Piranha 3D” sequel with director Alexandre Aja back to direct. Even if the film hadn’t made $10 million in its debut (from a $24 million budget — not super great numbers, but decent for a cheaply made genre entry that should make back its budget and then some from overseas markets, DVD, and cable), the studio would probably still be looking at doing a direct-to-DVD sequel anyway. But the fact that “Piranha 3D” has also gotten mostly rave reviews means a sequel is pretty much inevitable.

Producer Mark Canton says as much:

We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3-D, but cheering for it. And it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.

So where will the killer fishes with killer teeth be chomping this time?

Aja offered up this idea a couple of weeks back:

We had many ideas, like the full moon party in Thailand — a huge event with like 200,00 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.

Sounds like a date. Don’t forget to bring the girls:
