Iron Man 2 Casting: Emily Blunt as the Black Widow?

Word from Hollywood is that there’s a very specific actress circling a potentially big part in “Iron Man 2” — that of Natasha Romanoff, aka The Black Widow. And of course by “word” I mean it’s a Variety article. What am I, Harry Knowles with “industry friends” all of a sudden? Anyways, so, word from Variety is that Blunt is rumored to be the heads on favorite to land the potentially juicy role. And yes, it’s quite the juicy part, especially with an “Avengers” movie somewhere on the horizon. If the Marvel people are inclined to follow the “Ultimates” continuity (which I’m hoping they do, because let’s face it, a woman in tight black leather shooting “stingers” out of wristbands is kind of idiotic), then the Black Widow would feature prominently into an “Avengers” movie, as well as Tony Stark’s life.

Variety dishes the goods:

Emily Blunt has emerged as the frontrunner to play Natasha Romanoff in the “Iron Man” sequel. She’s a Soviet superspy who doubles as Black Widow, a beauty in a skintight black costume enhanced by high-tech weaponry.

Unless you live and smoke romantic comedies or chick flicks, you’ve probably never even heard of Emily Blunt. She was nominated for some awards a year ago, and has been in “The Devil Wears Prada”, “The Jane Austen Book Club” and “Dan in Real Life”. Yeah, exactly. You’ve probably never heard of her if you’re reading this site.

You might not know who Emily Blunt is, but take a look at her below. Tell me those smoldering eyes wouldn’t work as The Black Widow. Now just imagine her with a sexy Russian accent and two-fisting a couple of .45’s…
