What would you think if I were to tell you that the Mandarin will indeed be leading the Ten Rings terrorist organization against Tony Stark in “Iron Man 3?” Now what would you think if I told you that Mr. Stark may in turn be leading 40 automated Iron Men against the Mandarin and the Ten Rings? If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking “hell yes!”
First things, first: the enemy?
And now, the real game-changer-
Via Latino Review:
The Extremis-enhanced bad guys under direction of Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin villain are going to be too much for Tony to handle on his own, so he thinks ahead, thinks big and has a plan. Tony’s about to go out and fight some bad guys when he mentions the Mark XLVII to Pepper Potts. Pepper asks what happened to the other forty and Tony just smiles.
From the cockpit of Mark XLVII Tony is able to control multiple armors in battle. We over here at LR have been vaguely aware of an action scene where Tony was going to control multiple Iron Man suits (presumably they look similar to distract his enemies as to the location of kill-able Iron Man Prime), but the number 40 seems…awesome. 40 Iron Men.
If this is indeed the case, not only do we see the culmination of hints dropped by the previous 2 Iron Man movies that the Ten Rings may indeed have been the source of much of the Stark family’s misfortunes, but also a confirmation that the Extremis “virus” will be properly used!
For those unfamiliar with what the Extremis “virus” is, it’s essentially another super-soldier formula- but techno-organic. It injects a series of nano-tubes into the body, effectively “rewriting” it to be better, faster, stronger, and heal more quickly. In Tony Stark’s case, he forgoes the more traditional “super powers” aspects the virus offers, and programs it to allow his brain to interface directly with complex machinery (like say, an Iron Man suit), making his thoughts and their actions nearly simultaneous. It also allows him to process insane amounts of information directly into his subconscious, at near light speed.
The thought of Tony mentally controlling 40 individual robots as they clash with the Mandarin and his Extremis-enhanced henchman is truly awe-inspring. What do you think? Too good to be true? As others have noted, the gents at Latino Review are usually pretty spot- on.
Just when my excitement started to tip in Thor’s favor, we get news like this. You are starting to drive a hard bargain, Phase 2. Well played, Marvel… well played.
“Iron Man 3” swoops into theaters on May 3, 2013.
