Iron Man 3 Spoilers: Ten Rings, 47 Robots?

POTENTIAL SPOILERS:

What would you think if I were to tell you that the Mandarin will indeed be leading the Ten Rings terrorist organization against Tony Stark in “Iron Man 3?”  Now what would you think if I told you that Mr. Stark may in turn be leading 40 automated Iron Men against the Mandarin and the Ten Rings?  If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking “hell yes!”

First things, first: the enemy?

From CinemaBlend:

These are shots of the official “Iron Man 3″ crew hats.  They seem to be telling us something.

And now, the real game-changer-

Via Latino Review:

The Extremis-enhanced bad guys under direction of Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin villain are going to be too much for Tony to handle on his own, so he thinks ahead, thinks big and has a plan. Tony’s about to go out and fight some bad guys when he mentions the Mark XLVII to Pepper Potts. Pepper asks what happened to the other forty and Tony just smiles.

From the cockpit of Mark XLVII Tony is able to control multiple armors in battle. We over here at LR have been vaguely aware of an action scene where Tony was going to control multiple Iron Man suits (presumably they look similar to distract his enemies as to the location of kill-able Iron Man Prime), but the number 40 seems…awesome. 40 Iron Men.

If this is indeed the case, not only do we see the culmination of hints dropped by the previous 2 Iron Man movies that the Ten Rings may indeed have been the source of much of the Stark family’s misfortunes, but also a confirmation that the Extremis “virus” will be properly used!

For those unfamiliar with what the Extremis “virus” is, it’s essentially another super-soldier formula- but techno-organic.  It injects a series of nano-tubes into the body, effectively “rewriting” it to be better, faster, stronger, and heal more quickly.  In Tony Stark’s case, he forgoes the more traditional “super powers” aspects the virus offers, and programs it to allow his brain to interface directly with complex machinery (like say, an Iron Man suit), making his thoughts and their actions nearly simultaneous.  It also allows him to process insane amounts of information directly into his subconscious, at near light speed.

The thought of Tony mentally controlling 40 individual robots as they clash with the Mandarin and his Extremis-enhanced henchman is truly awe-inspring.  What do you think?  Too good to be true?  As others have noted, the gents at Latino Review are usually pretty spot- on.

Just when my excitement started to tip in Thor’s favor, we get news like this.  You are starting to drive a hard bargain, Phase 2.  Well played, Marvel… well played.

“Iron Man 3″ swoops into theaters on May 3, 2013.

Already posted on the 40 armors thing but the 10 rings thing is news. Love that emblem, wish I knew what each symbol was.

everything sounds good on paper. even the Avengers sounded awesome..a fanboy’s wet dream. unfortunately, most hollywood movies rely too much on CGI and lack any soul.

See I actually thought they did a decent job of not making Avenegrs a souless action blockbuster. Though they definitely should’ve left the deleted Cap scene in as he’s the ehart of the team kinda. Iron man defintiely needs to do somehting big for part 3 and this sounds pretty big. A military like action thriller full of coprorate espionage sounds perfect for an IM film.

I’m stoked for this movie! Avengers will be a hard act to follow and in reality this shouldn’t be judged against Avengers at all but with that being the last on screen appearance by Ironman the bar is set ridiculously high.
That being said I really hope that we see a bit more than a robot on robot scenario again. I know that Mandarin will be in it and there will be more in-depth exploration of the relationships that were set up in the other three films but there is still a need for a more humanized enemy in my opinion.
Don’t get me wrong, I thouroughly enjoyed Ironman, Ironman 2 and Avengers. However, I would just like more grounded adversaries. Ironman vs. Iron Monger followed by Ironman vs. the Hammer-oids then Whiplash/Titanium Man and in Avengers he is up against the Chitauri hordes. Although it worked in the Ironman Armored Adventures cartoon I hope they forego having Mandarin don a suit of armor.

I have a feeling Mandarin will use the extremis technology to become stronger and that’s why he is able to fight iron man, but I don’t think he’ll wear a suit. And maybe the rings he uses are tech based??

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Mandarin using Extremis is an interesting idea. As for teh rings I hope they aren’t tech based, but what they were in teh comics, a power source for a found alien ship. Not a chitauri one but something different, and he’s used the tech of the ship to reverse-engineer some tech and built A.I.M. around that. I’d love to see the Mandarin in some updated chinese armor or something that he’s connected to his rings.

        • TotesMagotes

I could actually see them using that storyline, with him finding the rings from a chitauri ship or something. Maybe the item-47 one-shot film is hinting at that, cause they find a piece of the chitauri tech and figure out how to use it.

This is a bit of a stretch but here we go. What if Red Skull returned from the cosmic cube’s void and has been using Mandarin and his public companies (AIM being one of them) as a front?
Mandarin in turn is using AIM as a front for his terrorist faction, The Ten Rings (an updated version of Hydra)!

That’d be epic Convoluted but epic! lol

I meant that it WASN’T Chitauro tech, but something completely different and older. SHIELD can’t have been the only ones getting their hands on things throughout history.

          • TotesMagotes

Well the whole theme of this movie is Tony trying to really become one with the suit. And we are to assume he succeeds with the extremis technology. Well what if mandarin does the same thing but somehow fuses that with the rings so that he can control them mentally? I was just suggesting that it’s Chitauri tech for continuity but I suppose it doesn’t really matter where the rings come from now that the Avengers movie has introduced the whole alien part of the marvel universe. I really just wanna see an epic face off between iron man and mandarin. Not a bunch of huge explosions or anything, just an awesome fight scene between the two of them similar to when Thor and Iron man fought in the Avengers.

And I’m curious if the Ten Rings will finally receive “the gift of 100 iron soldiers” (from iron man 1)
