Iron Man 3 Trailer Hits….And This Fan’s Reaction

The battle we have waited for…

The official “Iron Man 3″ trailer has been posted…and viewed…several times (man I am sad)…but you are not here to hear my grumblings on the trailer…yet.  Here is the trailer and after…my response.

As you can see Tony’s world, is pretty much destroyed (In every sense of the word), now wipe the drool from your mouths, there is much to discuss. First, this trailer alone is better than the entirety of “Iron Man 2″! It seems director Shane Black and Marvel went back to the serious tone established in the first film, not the goofy, stupid and nonsensical ramblings of the sequel. Do I think there are possibly TOO many villains in this film, yes. BUT it seems they are attacking Tony Stark from ALL possible angles, psychologically, physically, and business..lly. I think the Mandarin looks great and I think Sir Ben Kingsley will do a very admirable job. I do not like the new “Iron Patriot” War Machine armor (if that’s what it is, I’m hoping not). Now the Iron Man suit, oh the suit. Although it looks better in the film than in the Comic-Con photos, it still doesn’t have enough red, in my opinion. I think the cast looks great, the tone looks pitch perfect, and hopefully this is the Iron Man’s “The Dark Knight”. Us Marvel fans who love serious psychological drama have not been recognized, but finally it seems we may. I have loved/liked almost every Marvel movie that has come out (except the first 2 “X-men” films, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, and “Spider-Man 3″). So I have very high hopes for this film and hopefully we get more into what is going on in Tony’s head and him being a DANGEROUS drunk instead of a SILLY drunk.

Honestly Shane is doing a “Marvelous Job))” The Trailer is serious dark and by all means very close to the Extremis original comic. I think Shane Black should take to the Mass Effect franchise after this.

  • Wolfdaddy21

Obvious this will be Tony’s “belly of the Beast” story. Looks good, but I’m one of the few that have liked all of the Marvel films

The tone has me intruiged……..Tony’s definitely going to have a battle unlike any he’s had before. I’m loving EVERYTHING about this: the new armors, The Mandarin, cinematography………let’s see it through to the finish!!!!

  • Juggernaut

Looks great! The tone is definately more seroius and dramatic than IM2 but that is where the character is at now. He just helped save the world from total anhilation during the events of The Avengers. Millions were killed or injured. His pal Agent Coulson bit it (or so he was lead to believe). Having this film go in a darker direction is logical. When the first film left off he had saved the day but there weren’t any casualties (other than terrorists) and Tony was left to revvel in his new “Superhero” status. It was only fitting that when he returned in IM2 he be full of himself and the tone be a lot more fun. I really think that IM2 gets a bad rap. I for one really liked it and have seen it as many times as the first film if not more. There are so many great parts in there. The narrative is a bit more loose and the overall script a bit weaker but it was still an above average comic book movie. That being said I do think that this will be the hero-making installment and serve as Ironman’s TDKR.

Agreed about IM2! They definitely should’ve done something different with Whiplash but still I liked it and the explanation you gave of his mindset is spot on.

      • Juggernaut

I didn’t mind their amalgamization of Crimson Dynamo/Titanium Man/Blacklash that they came up with but a straight on interpertation of any of those characters would have been cool. Their biggest mistep was the inclusion of the armor for Whiplash at the end. We already watched IM take on Obediah in the Ironmonger suit, another armored villain was overkill. Although this one will be armorcentric (afterall it is an Ironman movie) it seems to be a more grounded and personal story with a very different set of circumstances and a new villain running the armored foes will be refreshing.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Yeah A chest piece and some gauntlets would’ve worked just fine. ANd then had his last set of drones pull out ships too OR had a Crimson Dynao drone and a Titanium Man drone.

          • Juggernaut

That would have been cool. I also would have liked for Whiplash to have been injured at some point and had him wear a suit similar to the one in the comics or the animated series engineered by Hammer.

Nix- you didn’t like the first two X-Men movies? What was it about them? Just curious. You usually hear people crap all over the third installment. I am actually a fan of the entire franchise (The Last Stand included). XO:W was terrible as a comic adaptation but after repeated viewings, and setting aside the continuity problems, blatant disregard for the character and the supporting characters’ linneage, misguided use of cameos and a shoddy script it’s actually not a bad action movie. Obviously as an X-Men fan I was very underwhelmed. However, the first two were pretty good. The second in particular.

they should have make x men origin wolverine into a darker tone. i think that would have been pretty good. i don’t even like the idea of gambit being there. any ways i cant wait to see the wolverine movie next year.

      • Juggernaut

XO:W definately should have been darker. Logan is one of the Marvel Universe’s darkest characters. Even in the first X-Men film they showed that side of him. A straight on Wolverine character study was the way that they should have gone. Instead we got a hodgepodge of all of the characters that hadn’t been used and the studio thought the fans wanted (Deadpool, Gambit, Blob) cluttering the plot and making a complete mockery of those aspects. Hopefully Wolverine turns out to be what XO:W should have been.

  • Aegon the Conqueror

Yeah Nix I’m also curious how you didn’t like the first two but you liked Last Stand (which was horrible imo). Origins is a bad story, but Hugh Jackman is fantastic in there.
Ok back to Iron Man, looks awesome, I love gritty and dark and I personally would love a Nolanesque take on the marvel series. I’m curious as to why Tony is having nightmares.
Am I the only one who likes the Patriot Armour? Maybe it’s cause I’m not American.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

“Maybe it’s cause I’m not American. ” Could be. It looks a little cheesy to me.

    • wolfdaddy21

I have no problem with the look, but the Iron Patriot armor has a negative image based on who wore it in the comics…

    • Juggernaut

I suppose the nighmares are of the loss of life and devestation. As for the IronPatriot armor I really like it. Still not sure what the deal is with it though. Is it Rhodey? Is it Coldblood? Is it someone else? What was the reason for the redesign? Will the traditional WM armor come back?

      • wolfdaddy21

its Rhoady because there is a screen cap and if you get close it says Lt. James Rhoades on the left chest area

        • Juggernaut

          Cool.

  • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Guys Nix didn’t write this! That said Lazz, I’m with Juggy and Aegon! How can you not like X-Men 1 and 2. Granted X-men has it’s issued but X2 was awesome, though First Class felt like the first real X-men film because Wolverine wasn’t the focus. ANYWAYS on to the real topic! IM3 looks awesome! This looks to be big. I’m all in and Kingsley’s Mandarin is perfect!!

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

The Mandarin is totally not Chinese. Ha ha. He doesn’t just NOT look Chinese, but he also doesn’t SOUND Chinese. No wonder the Chinese had no problems with him.

    • Lazz82

I know I am a minority on this….but the first 2 X-men movies weren’t god awful…i just wasn’t impressed by them (even though “X2″ I ALMOST liked…just strayed too much from the “God Loves, Man Kills” story…for my taste), BUT the first X-men didn’t have the original X-men…I know you have to throw Wolverine in, I’m not naive. But Rogue shouldn’t have been withe the X-men in the first movie…AT ALL! (and they made her a damn PLOT DEVICE!) Plus the casting was terrible…especially with Cyclops, Sabretooth and Storm…have there been worse comic movies HELL YES! (Catwoman, Spider-Man 3, and Supergirl to name a few. And I do agree with Juggernaut’s view on “XMO: W”….if you set aside almost EVERY comic element in the movie..it’s enjoyable and quite good…just not as a comic film.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

The X-men films were never what I like to refer to as “True adaptations” where you’re taking as much from a specific story as possible. “Sin City,” “300,” “Watchmen,” those are true adaptations. SPiderman X-men are not

        • Jonas

Not even Marvel/ Disney´s movies are faithfull to the comics.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I know they were never intended to be, they’re what I call “loose adaptations” they take the character, the world, some of the best of the stories from the comics but can weave their own stories. The Dark Knight Trilogy is a perfect example of this.

      • Juggernaut

I see what your saying about the first film. I too was hoping for the original line-up to be their team but it worked. The studio basically said who are the most popular members (at the time) that can be done with the least special effects. I liked James Marsden as Cyclops and Halle Berry as Storm but thought that they could have gotten someone better for both roles. Cyclops was misused in the entire series and Storm’s role was forced IMO. However, I thought that Tyler Mane was perfect for Sabretooth. Physically he is spot on! Granted all he did was grunt and growl but that was all he had to work with in the script. He could have pulled off a few lines. They really missed an opportunity in the movie for a fan pop having Sabretooth attack the truck and Logan recovering from the wreckage, sniffing the air and recognizing his old nemesis’ scent though. How cool would that have been!

(Logan rises, wipes the blood from his healing head wound. He groggily stumbles through the debris when he stops dead and sniffs the air)
        Logan: “CREED!”
(Sabretooth lunges out from the blinding snow)

I can only imagine that they ommitted that because they were uncertain of the film’s success and didn’t want any unanswered questions but that could have been cleared up with one line of dialogue.
Overall the first one was not perfect but a really good effort especially being one of the first of its kind. I loved X2 though. Nightcrawler alone is phenomenal. I really liked the Iceman/Pyro dynamic and the Magneto scenes and Colossus cameo were just icing on the cake!

        • wolfdaddy21

I too thought he was going to acknowledge Creed, but not only did he not know who he was but barely put up a fight, it would have been better if while they were fighting rouge was being abducted by toad or mystique and then the x-men come in

          • Juggernaut

Absolutely. That scenario would have been a lot better. I would have loved a full on ‘X-Men Animated Series’ from the 90’s style Logan vs. Creed smackdown!!! That was weak. The fight on the head of the Statue Of Liberty wasn’t as good as it could have been either. XO:W did try to tie up the loose end of Logan not knowing Creed because of the admantium bullet to the dome but that didn’t wipe Creed’s memory?!?!?! Oh well, Leiv Schreiber’s Creed also looked nothing like Tyler Mane’s so…

          • Lazz82

I love the fact they had to take a bullet to Wolverine’s head to make the first 3 X-films have continuity…I like Bryan Singer as a director but as a writer…(especially with comic films) he misses the mark totally….I really wish that he wouldn’t have f’d with David Hayter’s original script for the first 2 films. But what done is done…and ’tis sad that “X3: The Last Stand” is the most faithful of the original trilogy..

By the way, I think that’s the second time Black has blown up a house resting on a cliff. He did it in Lethal Weapon 2, too. The guy must have something against rich people putting houses on top of picturesque cliffs…

    • Juggernaut

I personally thought the hellicopter scene in the trailer was very reminiscent of the scene from the first Lethal Weapon film when Mr. Joshua and Shadow Company light up Murtaugh’s old war buddy, Hundsacker’s hillside home.

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

He did that, too, but he actually brought down the whole house in part 2.

        • Juggernaut

Right the pick-up pulled the stilts out! LOL

  • X_p

i wanted to hate it turns out…. i loved it!
i do wish it wasnt don cheadle tho.

I like the darker, serious more adult oriented adaptations. I’d like them to take even further, into R rated realm. they need to be more graphic in every sense of the word – especially Wolverine going against the Hand.
