Maybe, maybe not.
According to Latino-Review, it is, though the site is careful to couch the whole thing under “Hot Rumor.” Which, I suppose, is better than Cold Rumor. Or, even worse, Mildly Interesting Rumor.
The site says that Warner Bros. is “quietly sending out the DC comic book Legion Of Superheroes to screenwriters & their reps for takes.” Which basically means the studio is interested in the idea of a Legion of Superheroes movie, but doesn’t know how to proceed, so they want writers to come in and pitch them the movie.
But it’s interesting to note that Warner Bros. is looking past Batman and Superman and their Justice League buddies and exploring the galaxy. Or, er, the future galaxy? I was never a big fan of the Legion of Superheroes myself, mostly because the idea of reading comic books about people named Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, and Lightning Lad (not to mention their buddies Chameleon Boy, Invisible Kid, Colossal Boy, Star Boy) made me feel like a 5-year-old in need of a diaper change.
No doubt the success of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” had a little something to do with this, too. I guess from now on Warner doesn’t actually need to come up with any new ideas. All they have to do is wait for Marvel to make a success of something and, you know, copy the crap out of it.
Nice gig if you can get’em.
