Although I have nothing against the series as a whole, I bailed on the popular “Saw” franchise after the surprisingly strong third installment. Call me crazy, but a person can only watch individuals being tortured, mutilated, and eviscerated so many times before he or she begins to question their own mental stability. However, I’m willing to take a gamble on the seventh film in the series, which finds Cary Elwes reprising his infamous role as footless doctor Lawrence Gordon. “Saw VII 3D”, which also stars Tobin Bell, Sean Patrick Flanery, Costas Mandylor, and Betsy Russell, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 22nd.
For those who actually care about the plot, here’s a synopsis:
As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror…
The first theatrical feature to be shot exclusively on the cutting-edge SI-3D digital camera system, SAW VII 3D brings the horrifying games of Jigsaw to life like never before.
Is the casting of Elwes simply a ploy to drag fans back into the fold? After the sixth feature’s lackluster box office numbers, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised.
