Is Eastwood’s Gran Torino a Dirty Harry Sequel???

Written by Nix | March 20th, 2008 | 2 Comments |

Yesterday we got a surprise when Variety announced that Clint Eastwood was returning to the acting game, having retired after “Million Dollar Baby”, for a new movie called “Gran Torino”. Unfortunately no one had a clue what the movie was about, not even the trades. But the boys over at AICN thinks they know what it is — or at least, someone emailed them with a guess: Is “Gran Torino” in fact another Dirty Harry sequel? That’s the word on the street, as it were. Read on.

Nobody seems to know – not even the trades – what Clint Eastwood’s new movie, Gran Torino, is…. So I’ll tell you.

I recently advertised my 1974 ford grand torino classic original for sale in the local here, and within 24 hours had someone from Village Roadshow Pictures interested in having a look at it. He came. He wasn’t interested for numerous reasons (probably the modifications). He told me they were looking for the right car for a new Clint Eastwood movie.

He said it was a thriller about a killer that drives a certain torino. His 1972 Ford Gran Torino is the only thing the police have on him. A retired police lieutenant, one Harry Callahan, makes it his mission to track down the culprit when two young police officers, one Callahan’s grandson, are shot and killed by the guy.

So there it is. Another Dirty Harry movie? Maybe, maybe not. Some guy comes over and volunteers the whole plot of the film? Wow, that happens to me all the time, too.

But what if it is true? What do you think about a very old (’70s) Harry Callahan running around San Francisco trying to stop a shooter during an old car from the ’70s? Two relics of the past in Hippiesville aka San Francisco? That would be a sight.

Just too awesome if it’s true! And, man, I hope it’s true.

It would be odd only in the fact that Eastwood definitly doesn’t NEED to do another Dirty Harry sequal. But that said if anybody could make it work it’s him. Plus for all the shots thrown at actors resurecting their 80’s roles-It’s been an amazing run so far. I’ve loved the Stallone movies,Die Hard was a great time, and Indianna Jones looks perfect. It’s better than remakes-Which I find insulting to the originals, and hurt my soul.
