Nothing like real life to go and screw up a potentially good movie. With Sunday’s news that Osama Bin Laden had been found by a unit of SEALs badasses and terminated like the cockroach that he is (or so the American Government would like us to BELIEVE (ahem)), what’s the status of Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden-centric movie, tentatively going under the title of, “Kill Bin Laden”?
THR says there are a number of options: the movie could be scrapped completely, or they could tweak the original plot, which would have involved a failed black ops mission to kill the wanted Al Qaeda leader and money man. That plot, as you would imagine, is a tad anti-climactic now that he has been found.
The project was apparently moving along pretty smoothly before this weekend, with names like Michael Fassbender and Joel Edgerton circling the male lead.
The likely outcome, though, would be to scrap the project completely and just go do something else, especially since it’s very likely that Hollywood will be cranking out a slew of fast-tracked projects to chronicle what happened, as Hollywood is wont to do. After all, Bigelow and her co-writer Mark Boal were just in the scripting stages, so it’s not like they’ve already invested a lot of cash in the project.
