Is Marvel Planning a Punisher and Black Widow Animated Movie?

The Punisher Comic BookWith all signs pointing to D.C. getting out of the original direct-to-DVD animated movie (or at least, making their footprint in the area noticeably smaller), maybe Marvel thinks this is the right time to step in.

This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has done original direct-to-DVD animated movies. They’ve achieved some measure of success with a pair of “Ultimate Avengers” titles, there was also a Doctor Strange flick that I quiet enjoyed, Iron Man, and of course, their Asian-created “X-Men” and “Blade” line of TV series.

According to Marvel writer Jeph Loeb (via a podcast with something called Word Balloon), Marvel has plans for a new original animated movie starring everyone’s favorite skull-wearing vigilante, The Punisher. Not only Frank Castle and his war van (and, one assumes, Microchip as well — what’s Punisher without Microchip in the war van?), but also the Black Widow will be appearing.

A movie team-up between the Punisher and Black Widow, if you will.

Not only that, but apparently Loeb let slip that Marvel has plans for 15 animated projects still in the development stage. That’s, uh, a lot.

I’ve always been a fan of the Punisher, and I was hoping for that rumored Punisher cable TV series that seems to have faded into the ether. I guess an original direct-to-DVD animated Punisher movie will just have to do instead.

Not sure, but I seem to recall the Punisher and Black Widow teaming up once or twice in the comics. I could be wrong, of course.

It would be cool for them to do a Punisher team up series. Black Widow, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, ect. all teaming with Punisher for an installment. That would be kick ass.

I could see that. It would have to have Deadpool in there too,and of course WOlverine. But “Badass” Logan not “Pretty Boy” Logan.

Yeah!! Regardless of the missteps taken with some of the anime (Wolverine and to a point Iron Man) they were good excercises in what can be done when the chains are off. They had creative freedom and still paid homage. If Marvel can get regular releases of anime films and series based on their properties it’d do a lot to distance themselves from the DC animated films and they could still do animated films based on popular stories like they did with Planet Hulk in addition to the animes.

I would love to see this but also maybe animated film about Cable

How about letting Tom Jane take the helm on a completely new Punisher movie? That short Punisher film he did (Dirty Laundry I think it was called) was awesome. That’s the direction I’d like to see it go.

i’m all for that. I’d actually rather have a tv show on like HBO or Starz or something

I can only imagine the thought of a “Punisher” show unfolding like a “Dexter” or “The Shield”

Don’t forget the Wire and some Breaking Bad!

I don’t know what characters Marvel’s DTV branch has access to, but I hope these movies are independent of the Disney/Marvel Cinematic or Fox Universe and that they take DC’s lead and give us adaptations of classic runs and mini-series and graphic novels. Imagine a “God Loves, Man Kills” movie right before “X-Men: First Class: Days of Future Past” or a record of the Kree/Skrull War before “Guardians of the Galaxy” drops. I know it’s wishful thinking but…

      That would be really cool.
