Yeah, “Bloodshot”. Why not? Anyways, word from Latino Review is that “Kick Ass” director Matthew Vaughn has already decided on his next project, and it’s a live-action adaptation of the ’90s Valiant comic book “Bloodshot”. Fans of Jim Shooter’s Valiant will immediately think pale white skin, bloodshot eyes, and machineguns, and they would be right. Basically, if you don’t know who Bloodshot is or has read any of the books, just think of him as The Punisher, except this guy can control machines because of all the little nanites running around inside him.
Wikipedia has a quick rundown on the character:
Angelo Mortalli has become the ultimate killing machine. His memories were erased and his blood was infused with microscopic computers called nanites. These nanites allow him to heal wounds quickly, dominate electronic devices, and fully control every aspect of his body to maximize his physical capabilities. A modern-day Frankenstein, he wages a one man war — taking out the mob, the police and his covert government creators — in his struggle to find out who he was and what he has become.
According to LR, Vaughn plans on financing the film independently the way he did “Kick Ass”. Of course, that’s the idea, but it remains to be seen if Vaughn’s geek-friendly “Kick Ass” actually finds an audience. Remember, kids, just because you and all your fanboy buddies ooze over a movie, it doesn’t necessarily translate into box office bucks. Dare I say it? “Watchmen”. (I dare, I dare…)
A “Bloodshot” movie is probably the easiest sell of all the Valiant comic books (re: the angry, violent vigilante) but for my money, I would much rather see the “Highlander”-esque “Eternal Warrior”, or even the buddy cop-ish “Archer and Armstrong”, or hell, if we really want to get ambitious about it, a “Solar: Man of the Atom” movie would be just aces.
