Peter Sciretta, who runs the great movie site /film, has an interesting article about how Paris Hilton’s latest movie, “The Hottie and the Nottie”, has been rated as the worst movie of all time over at IMDB.com. Now I’ve not seen the film, and I’m sure anyone who has won’t admit it, but come on, could it really be that bad, or is there something else behind the Paris bashing?
Sciretta also mentions that of the 6 movies that Paris has had a starring role in, including “The Hottie and the Nottie”, the film with the best rating is the “House of Wax” remake, which managed a respectable 5.4 score. The other five, on the other hand, never broke 2.3, with four movies boasting a rating lower than 2.0.
Here’s a breakdown of Paris’ movies from worst to “best”, and their position in the ranks of “Worst Movie of All Time” as selected by the public:
“The Hottie and the Nottie” (2007) 1.2 Rating with 2,514 votes – #1 Worst Movie of All Time
“Pledge This!” (2006) 1.6 Rating with 3,614 votes – #5 Worst Movie of All Time
“The Hillz” (2004) 1.7 Rating with 2,416 votes – #13 Worst of All Time
“Bottoms Up” (2006) 1.9 Rating with 3,064 votes – #23 Worst of All Time
“Nine Lives” (2002) 2.3 Rating with 957 votes – #60 Worst of All Time
“House of Wax” (2005) 5.4 Rating with 19,462 votes
While I don’t think anyone will say that Paris Hilton is a good actress, or even a serviceable one, that’s never stopped Jessica Alba or Keanu Reeves from becoming mega Hollywood stars, and no one seems to hate them with the same kind of ferocity they display towards Hilton.
So what’s behind all this antagonism towards Paris Hilton? I don’t know, I guess it’s the life of privilege followed by the obsessive desire to be famous for absolutely no reason. American TV is full of such people, 99.9% of them fronting their own “reality” TV shows. Then again, you don’t see Kim Kardashian trying to become a movie star. At least, not yet…
