Yahoo seems to think so, in an article titled “Penelope Cruz to be ‘the oldest ever Bond girl'”, that then spends half of the article telling us how old Cruz is. I guess that’s, uh, you know, important or something. Right?
Anyways. The article cites “a source close to the production” as saying that Cruz has been in talks with the producers to join the untitled Bond 24 for a while now, and she’s now set to co-star alongside 45-year old Daniel Craig, who is once again returning as Bond.
Director Sam Mendes, who at one point told the media that he suffered from nightmares about directing a sequel to “Skyfall”, is now said to be actively in talks to return. Go figure.
If Cruz has indeed landed a Bond gal role, she would be the oldest actress in the role, with the previous record holder being Honor Blackman, who played Pussy Galore in “Goldfinger” when she was 39. Of course, that’s assuming production on Bond 24 starts next year. Cruz, as far as I know, is still 39 now, and won’t turn 40 until April 28, 2014.
Cruz was last seen opposite Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and has “The Counselor” by Ridley Scott up next.
Speaking of Pussy…she was quite a girl, as I recall.
