Is Underworld 4 on the Way?

What’s that, you say? Can’t get enough werewolf-on-vampire action? You’re in luck, because according to the boyos at STYD, Sony’s Screen Gems was so pleased with the box office returns of the previous film, the totally unnecessary but nevertheless entertaining “Underworld: Rise of Lycans” prequel, that the studio has greenlit a fourth movie in the franchise.

It’s still way too early to say who will be returning for the fourth entry, where it’s headed, or if Kate Beckinsale will make men everywhere happy by agreeing to slip back into the skintight black pleather that she wore so well in the first two “Underworld” movies. Let’s face it, while Rhona Mitra made for an acceptable substitute in “Rise of the Lycans”, there’s nothing like the original. One thing’s for certain, though: the film will be shot in the trendy 3-D that you kids seem to dig so much.

So why even make another one? Easy: people are still digging the franchise, even the third one without original stars Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman, or original director Len Wiseman. The film was made for $35 million, but went on to gross just south of $100 million in worldwide box office. Add in DVD, cable, and TV sales, and the film will easily turn a profit.
