Is Warner Bros. Aiming for a Dark and Mature Justice League Movie?

Mark MillarThanks to the unqualified success of Marvel’s “The Avengers”, there’s really no reason for Warner Bros. not to get cracking on their own version of the Avengers — the Justice League. With yesterday’s news that the WB is, indeed, moving forward on a “Justice League” movie, rumors are starting to leak about what we can expect from this live-action take on D.C.’s superhero team-up.

According to the prolific Mark Millar, who has his own fingers in plenty of comic book properties percolating around Hollywood and elsewhere, he expects this version of the Justice League to be “dark and mature”. How does he know? Well, he knows someone who knows the writer Will Beall, who WB has tapped to write “Justice League”. He writes via Millar World (h/t Mike):

A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said his take on the team is incredible. Very real-world and not at all what you might expect. WB has a chequered history with their superhero characters. They’re great with their boy wizards, but less consistent with their DC stable. But my chum said that this could be a thing of beauty and has been in the works for a little while now, not just an avengers knock-off. Best of luck to them. The tidbits I heard sound quite dark and mature, which isn’t what I expected. But word on Gangster Squad is great too so I feel this is in really good hands.

“Real-world”? “Dark and mature”? I guess you could use all those descriptions for Batman (especially the Christopher Nolan Batman movies), but for the rest of the Justice League roster as well, including Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman?

That’ll be something to see … if true.

Wellif they take the marvel approach to “Real world” it can work. Hell if they take the “Ultimates” approach to real world it would work. Or even the “EarthOne” approach.

This would make the most sense. There’s still no sign of what Man Of Steel will be like but if Nolan is the “Godfather” I’m sure it will be closer to TDK than GL. As we know, Nolan’s realistic, gritty, bat films are successful and the hyper-reality and citchey nature of the Green Lantern movie didn’t work. If DC uses MOS as it’s model we could see the JL movie follow suit.

*sigh* not that “Godfather” by-line again……Anywho, I love how not too long ago, DC was tryna play it cool, talking about their attitude regarding their films “isn’t necessarily about connecting those properties together to build into a single thing.” Then there was the remark about how their stories and characters “lend themselves to great standalone experiences” and that’s what they’re gonna be focusing on.

It’s obvious they didn’t wanna risk making a movie like this first so they just sat back and waited to see how Whedon and Marvel would do. I don’t think they’re gonna do their crossover exactly the same way, so it’ll be interesting to see how they tweek it and if they can pull it off…..

Not to be a hater……But DC seems to be band-wagoners. First and foremost, I must say that I enjoy DC characters as much as Marvel characters. I’d love to see The Flash and Wonder Woman in their own separate films. And I’m eagerly awaiting “The Man of Steel.” Yet it is funny that they suddenly want to make this Justice League movie once they’ve seen how much money The Avengers brought in.

The formula for success is simply and fans have been saying make these movie cross overs and team ups for a long time now. But studios are stuck-up little punks who don’t even care about the individual characters of Batman, Supes, Flash, etc. But now that the money has been made they want to be in on the action too. Band Wagon fools lol. Wow! It’s amazing what money will to do people/studios! lol

Even if im a comic fan, I hope WB JL crashes and burns. Hopping into the success of Avengers? Really? How long is it going to take..5-6 years?. They should have done this earlier when Nolan’s batman came out. Now they are going to make a fast made bad quality movie or make a movie that’s going to come out long after the superhero hype is dead.
