According to the site Vulture, Warner Bros. is looking to reboot Joe Dante’s 1984 horror/comedy “Gremlins”, a venture that would require them getting the rights from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
Alas, Warner Bros. has been attempting to get said rights for some time now, and have always failed, but Vulture’s unnamed source thinks they might just get it this time. Spielberg might end up as a producer or some such on the film, though it’s unlikely he’ll be interested in directing.
Directed by Dante, the original “Gremlins” found a teenager (played by Zach Galligan) caring for a strange but uber cute creature named Gizmo that eventually (accidentally) spawns evil versions of itself, the Gremlins of the title, which cause chaos in the teenager’s town.
The film spawned a sequel six years later.
All I gotta say is, the reboot better have a love interest that is at least as cute as Phoebe Cates. If not then really, what’s the point?
