Isabelle Fuhrman, last seen trying to kill Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” (and before that, trying to kill Vera Farmiga in “Orphan” — I sense a pattern here), will now be running from a killer in David Gordon Green’s remake of Dario Argento’s “Suspiria”, set for release in 2013. Let’s see how she likes it!
Fuhrman will play Suzie, a young girl who “travels to Europe to attend a world-renowned school, only to learn that the academy is a front for a coven of witches.” And like all witches, these ones are bent on chaos and destruction, as all witches are, of course.
Jessica Harper played the lead in the 1977 original.
Fuhrman is currently co-starring alongside the Smiths in M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth”, but don’t expect to be seeing her in “The Hunger Games 2”. Dying tends to mess up your sequel negotiations.
Green, who is coming off back-to-back stinkers with “The Sitter” and “Your Highness”, will direct from a script he co-wrote with Chris Gebert. Maybe trying his hand in horror will get that ol career back on track. One can only hope.
“Suspiria” will shoot later this year in September, but the boys are currently selling it over at Cannes.
