Oh look, a J.J. Abrams produced movie that we actually have a logline for! Now this is something new. Abrams and company usually go to such great lengths to hide even the tiniest bit of information about their movies, actually getting an honest-to-goodness logline for an upcoming Abrams film is simply shocking.
Anyways. Abrams and his Bad Robot shingle will be producing a new movie called “God Particle” for Paramount Pictures. “God Particle” was written by Oren Uziel, and goes something like this:
After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.
Abrams won’t be directing, though. At least, at this point he’s said to not be directing. I guess that could always change at a later date.
The premise sounds pretty cool, but with just $5 million to work with, I get a bad feeling this might end up being another Found Footage movie, ala “Apollo 18”. I hope not, of course, but how else are you going to shoot a space-based movie about the end of the world (or thereabouts) about astronauts in a space station for less than $5 million? It would be quite a feat…
