J.J. Abrams Searches For/Finds God Particle

J.J. Abrams Oh look, a J.J. Abrams produced movie that we actually have a logline for! Now this is something new. Abrams and company usually go to such great lengths to hide even the tiniest bit of information about their movies, actually getting an honest-to-goodness logline for an upcoming Abrams film is simply shocking.

Anyways. Abrams and his Bad Robot shingle will be producing a new movie called “God Particle” for Paramount Pictures. “God Particle” was written by Oren Uziel, and goes something like this:

After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.

Abrams won’t be directing, though. At least, at this point he’s said to not be directing. I guess that could always change at a later date.

The premise sounds pretty cool, but with just $5 million to work with, I get a bad feeling this might end up being another Found Footage movie, ala “Apollo 18″. I hope not, of course, but how else are you going to shoot a space-based movie about the end of the world (or thereabouts) about astronauts in a space station for less than $5 million? It would be quite a feat…

Moon managed something similar enough with such a budget, but yeah, I share your skepticism.

I love when Nix gets a new favorite word……first it was “godfather” and now it’s “logline” :)

Anywho, I think we should demonstrate a little more faith in J.J. I mean, he did godfather (see what I did there?) CLOVERFIELD, one of the more top tier examples of the genre. And if you haven’t checked out THE JOKER BLOGS yet, I suggest you do. These kids had wwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy less than $5 million to play with (try $35K) and they managed to produce a phenominal product. Now, I will concede that shooting a space movie on that kind of budget is different than a superhero or horror film, but seeing as how space is just black with pintholes in it and the Earth will be gone in this film, all you really need is an awesome set for the space station.

This can totally be done, and done well I believe.

God Particle looks very similar to a web series/comic book launched a few weeks ago http://www.colliderworld.com
Is this the year of the Collider?
