Jack Ryan Reboot Gets a Poster, and Tom Clancy Passes Away at 66

Tom ClancyI doubt if this was on purpose, but on the same day that we get an official poster for the new Jack Ryan movie, officially titled “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” (which is a really awful movie title, but a middling game title), comes word that the character’s creator, novelist Tom Clancy, has passed away at the age of 66.

Clancy was, of course, one of the most celebrated authors of what has become known as techno thrillers — action-packed stories with a high high-tech quotient. Besides books, his properties were expanded into movies (including the Jack Ryan franchise), along with TV shows and, even more lucrative, games like the ever-expanding “Rainbox Six” series.

I guess it’s somewhat appropriate that Clancy’s most famous character, Jack Ryan, today released the first official poster for the upcoming reboot of the franchise directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also plays the villain. The reboot will star “Star Trek’s” Chris Pine in the title role.

According to the poster, the film’s official title is now “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”. Previously it was just “Jack Ryan”, and then it was “Jack Ryan: Shadow One”. The plot finds Ryan uncovering a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack.

Starring Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner, Kenneth Branagh, and Colm Feore.

Jack gets recruited this December 25th. No word on a trailer yet, though, which is curious, considering that the film is due this December. Unless they plan on delaying it. Which is possible, given there’s only a “Coming Soon” on the poster below.
