Damn. Now that’s a list.
According to trade news, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nic Cage and Milla Jovovich are all in “advanced negotiations” to join the ballooning cast of “The Expendables 3″. (So what does “advanced negotiations” mean? I guess it might mean things have gone beyond the rumor stage and are now in the actively talking contract details stage. Or not.)
Chan, Snipes, and Cage I can see, but Jovovich? That’s a surprise. She’s certainly got the ass-kicking pedigree, though it’s curious the people who were trying to get an all-female version of “The Expendables” made couldn’t/didn’t land her for their movie. She would be a natural fit.
I guess franchise star/director/producer Sylvester Stallone was dead serious about injecting some new blood into the movie. They tried that with a young actor (Liam Hemsworth) and a girl (Nan Yu) in the last one, but apparently they’re looking to add even more of a female touch.
(Makes you wonder if Nan Yu’s Maggie will be back, though. They did push a romance subplot pretty hard between her and Stallone’s character in part 2.)
The Chan casting is interesting. Does that mean Jet Li isn’t coming back? As you’ll recall, he was barely in the second movie after having a major role in the first. I’m guessing either Snipes or Cage (though probably Cage, see below for his resume) will play the film’s lead villain. That usually seems to be how Stallone approaches the films — with major names as the bad guy, like Jean-Claude Van Damme from the previous movie.
“The Expendables 3″, starring Stallone, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, and everyone else who survived the last two movies, are expected back in 2014.
“Red Hill’s” Patrick Hughes will take over directing chores this time ’round.
