Jackman to Rescue Weisz in Stowe’s Unbound Captives

Unbound Captives Movie — By Nix on May 13, 2009

Wow, two gunslinger movies in one day? I must be in heaven! Okay, so maybe Madeleine Stowe’s “Unbound Captives” doesn’t really sound all that much like a gunslinger movie, but it’s got bloodthirsty Commanches, a mysterious cowboy badass, and it’s got a damsel in distress. Sounds pretty good to me. The film will star Hugh Jackman as the (probably) dashing cowboy who comes to the rescue of Rachel Weisz, whose husband has been killed and her children abducted by a Commanche war party. The film will be set in 1859, cause, well, Commanche war parties in 2009 would be kind of weird.

The film will mark the directorial debut of Madeleine Stowe. Yes, Madeleine Stowe. You know, the actress? She was in a ton of movies in the ’90s, including “Unlawful Entry”, “Twelve Monkeys”, “The Last of the Mohicans”, and the “Stakeout” films. She was also in “Revenge” with Kevin Costner. Basically, one of the best looking leading ladies of the ’90s has now decided to step behind the camera to direct her own script.

According to Variety, Stowe was actually offered millions for the script by Fox when she first wrote it on spec in the ’90s. Except Stowe wanted to star in the Weisz role, but Fox wasn’t committing to that notion. So Stowe didn’t sell, and now, nearly two decades later, she’s about to go into production on the film with Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, and “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson playing one of Weisz’s chilidren.

And while Stowe has no directorial experience behind the camera, she’ll get plenty of help: Hyde Park Entertainment is sending over John Toll to shoot the movie for her. If you don’t know the name John Toll, then you probably don’t stay around for credits. He’s been the shooter on big epics like “Braveheart” and “The Last Samurai”. Basically, the man knows how to frame a shot.

No word on a start date for “Unbound Captives”.
