Jackson Confirms Nick Fury for Captain America and Avengers, Not Thor

Ultimates Nick Fury (ala Samuel L. Jackson) in “The Avengers” is a given, and his eyepatch is all over those “Iron Man 2″ promos, but what about the period-set “Captain America” set to shoot this Summer in England and Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor”, which is already shooting and nearly done?

Yes on the first, but no on the second, according to Jackson himself (via IESB). Says Jackson, he has no idea why he isn’t in “Thor”, and sounds a bit disappointed. Of course, he’s not the only one. It was always assumed that Nick Fury, the head of SHIELD and the man who pulls the Avengers super team together, would have to be in every movie if just to connect the Marvel U. films, and since Thor is a very vital part of the Avengers, it would make sense for him to pop up if only for a cameo ala the first “Iron Man” movie. Apparently, not so much.

Jackson also doesn’t think a “Nick Fury” solo film will ever happen, and seems to think that Joss Whedon’s “Avengers” will shoot as soon as next February.

    Very good point.

I did an online survey with 243 respondents, and the most popular Avengers were:
    Captain America
    Iron Man
    Hawk Eye
    Luke Cage

Of the female heroes, She-Hulk got the most votes. I am a fan of the Beast, but he didn't get many votes.

Are there any other heroes folks think should be on the list?

how are captain america, iron man and thor the core 3? captain america wasn't even in the avengers until issue #4. Hulk, Iron man and Thor are the core 3 :)

@Jteeeeeeeen: That was the comics. This isn't the comics. Things will inevitably change when adpating ideas. Look at the difference between The Avengers and The Ultimates. The movie universe seems to be a cross between the two. So Yeah Cap, Thor and Iron Man would be the core three, as it's easier to write a story about them and have the audience relate to them, than it would if it was Iron Man, Thor and Hulk. Hulk will be there though and I'm sure it'll be pretty close to both the Ultimates (with Hulk rampaging and them having to stop it) and original Avengers with Loki having something to do with it.

Beast wouldn't make it in the film since he's currently owned by 20th Century Fox with X-men characters.

actually the in the end credits of iron man 2 it is just shield agent coulson telling fury on the phone that he has found MJOLNIR in a crater in the desert and thats it! just saw the movie.

  • Captain Dramatic

    Don't be silly.
The Avengers came together when Cap joined, it's like the second most important moment in Avenger history when cap joined. Hulk was on the team first, but Cap made the team a team.

Thor doesn't join the Avengers based on the suggestion of anyone like Nick Fury or any humans trying to use him. He joins because of the example Captain America sets. Thor joins the Avengers because he considers it an honor to fight at Steve Roger's side, not because anyone has sway over him, or because he owes humanity anything.

“or because he owes humanity anything”

Thor's mother is Gaea, thus he has a major attachment with Midgard.

Exactly…that was Mjolnir they found at the end of IM2.

Sorry I haven’t read all your posts. I think there should be a James Bond style Nick Fury movie showing the efforts of a second party trying to stop Nick’s Avengers innitiative.
