Jake Gyllenhaal Offered Prince of Persia?

By Nix | April 9, 2008 (12:11 am)

Coming on the heels of pretty solid news that Orlando Bloom will, in fact, NOT be the lead in Jerry Bruckheimer’s upcoming “Prince of Persia” mega movie and franchise starter, comes this rumor from Latino Review that they heard the offer has gone out to Jake Gyllenhaal (pictured, below) to play Dastan (pictured, left), the lead in “Prince”. But, LR cautions, news is that Gyllenhaal is currently gimpy from a basketball injury, so how will that affect his role as the parkour-leapin’ Prince of Persia?

More:

…Jake has been sporting crutches lately in public because he hurt his ankle playing basketball. Now I don’t know the severity of his injury and it doesn’t seem that bad since the he just got back from vacationing in Mexico with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon.

The complication is that I don’t know how much more time Jake is going to need to heal because if you read my script review “HERE”, the role is very physical. Lots of Parkour involved and I don’t know if Disney feels like waiting for Jake to heal his ankle. Then again, they might get Jake one hell of a stunt double so let’s see.

Like his sister Maggie, I really don’t see what all the big fuss is about the Gyllenhaals. He’s a good actor for dramas and indie thrillers, but the lead in a potential mainstream action movie franchise? Jerry Bruckheimer is a smart businessman, and I can’t see him doing something like this. Seriously? Jake Gyllenhaal as an action hero who will have to commit to a franchise? I just don’t see it.

But then again, if you were to ask me a few years ago if Johnny Depp would make a good lead for a mainstream action movie franchise, I’d tell you No, too, so what do I know.

Am i the only person who thinks that they should, i don’t know, find a real damn Middle Eastern for this movie?

I hate to say it, but if Hollywood cared about authenticity 90% of all Hollywood movies would never get made.

I agree, but its like, Its in the title. Persia. not America. Or at least pick someone who looks persian.

These are still rumors.
If someone can play Dastan then it would be Jake Gyllenhaal. After Brokeback Mountain, he proved to be an all-round actor by staring in Jarhead.

Gyllenhaal’s a good actor, but he’s no Prince of Persia. I think that Jason Behr (at least I think that’s his name) who played “Caleb/Varick” from Skinwalkers would be a better choice.

ANY ACTOR COULD BE THE PRINCE OF PERSIA.

Who gives a damn if Jake Gyllenhaal is the prince or if any actor
could play the prince its up to the filmmakers to decide who would be the Prince Of Persia.
Jason Behr of the Skinwalkers fame would look the part for the movie,it could be a good movie if any actor can play the prince in the film.

Thank you.

I think the guy who played Prince Caspian would be much better choice. He’s young, handsome, and looks middle eastern. I don’t understand why they chose Jake. He has wrinkles for goodness sake and he’s just too American!

Ok. I’m a bit confused. Jake is not good looking for this role. I will not enjoy seeing him half naked and don’t get me started with him doing martial arts. Jake is a character actor not an Action Star. I’m sure they will make a lot of money once this movie comes out, but you can be sure it will NOT be because of Jake. They are lucky to have casted Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley, if it weren’t for them I am sure nobody would care for Jake. He is a great actor, but not an Action Star. They must be doing some type of MAGIC in Morocco to make this guy look slightly Persian. Also, nobody mentions the girl playing his love interest. Hello? She supposed to be INDIAN not English. This girl is far from Exotic, but once again this is Hollywood. IT is all fake. They will do anything to make them both look the part. Who cares though, no matter how much they fix them we all know under all that stuff it’s still Jake and some Bond girl from England.

P.S. Jake if you are reading this. No heart feelings. You are an amazing actor, but I am Persian and I think it would have been nice to give the opportunity to a Persian actor and an Indian Actress.
