James Cameron’s Sci-Fi Epic Avatar Teaser Trailer Arrives At Last

Avatar (2009) Movie, Featured, Videos — By Nix on August 20, 2009

We’ve been covering James Cameron’s “Avatar” pretty heavily over at our sister site SciFiCool.com, and of course there’s nothing bigger this week than the release of the first-ever “Avatar” teaser trailer, which you can check out below and behold the … blueness of Pandora. Mechs, avatars, crazy alien plants, warmongering humans, and badassly scarred Marines are all on show in the teaser trailer.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, and written and directed by James Cameron.

Continue following our “Avatar” coverage over at SciFiCool.com here.

“Avatar” lands December 18, 2009.

Um. I’m actually underwhelmed by that. All this hype and thats all we get. No dialogue, no plot set up, just random action and not even music to get us emotionally invested. Come on. And is it me or did the close ups on the Navi look a little cartoonish? When they’re all angry looking they look fine but they look a little off. All this talk of groundbreaking cg, and all I can think is Gollum, Dobie, and Distric 9 all looked better. Sigh I hope the first full trailer is better

If you WATCH the trailer…. you can see the whole plot. He’s the only one that could pull something like this off.

      • Dedpool says:

No I mean I saw the whole plot, I’m mean like nothing to get us interested in the characters. This looks okay but not the amazing film it was made out to be.

I think James Cameron is a great director. I think The Abyss Director’s Cut is one of the best Sci Fi movies every made. I agree – I was underwhelmed by the trailer and I am really apprehensive about the character designs and special effects. District 9 proves less is more. I will reserve judgement for the final movie, but for some reason, I can’t help but think of another movie when I see those aliens: Battlefield Earth….

the “supposed to look like the future” machines and stuff looks cool – the animated avatar guys look cartoonish – meh

I watched preview of the movie,so amazing,so cool!

  • stivson says:

Imo, aliens look preety wierd in a good sense, just like that screaming human-mutant from C. Cunningham’s “Come To Daddy” video. Long arms and legs and
strange looking face, not that cartoonish at all, just strange. Cameron is one
of few flim directors who enjoyes so much in chrushing and smashing things on the screen. I really like that about his movies. So much fun..

meh, take away the body-swap avatar angle and you’ve got another story about evil humans and their technology vs aliens who live in harmony with nature and whatever, which means we can look forward to a story which reminds us EVIL WHITE WESTERN SOCIETY IS THE EVIL-EST WHITEST EVIL THING IN THE UNIVERSE!!!! How is it that someone works on a movie for 14 years and fails to see how obvious the plot is? I’m already imaging the following events to occur in the movie:

    GUESSWORK SPOILERS:

-Jake Sully and a female alien meet when one saves the other’s life, then fall in love.
-At least one Na’vi male looks down on Sully as inferior or sees him as a threat, probably motivated by romantic jealousy, but Sully confronts him or undergoes a rite of passage and prove himself.
-After spending time with the Na’vi and making friends, Sully witnesses atrocities against the aliens where he knows both the victim(s) and perp(s) and gets wind of a far-reaching plot by the humans to wipeout the Na’vi. He must… choose a side. Of course he sides with the Na’vi, and joins them in battling Imperial stormtroopers in the forests of Endor’s moon

Oh my Goodness how did you know all this? Have you seen it already? Are yu psychic? Or is the plot just that transparent? Lmao. Love the Star Wars reference.

I will still be there opening weekend for this, if nothing because the 3-d should be amazing, but I hope the movie genuinely surprises me

  • ChristophK says:

Seems like an over-hyped load of bollocks to me.

  • anne says:

I saw the preview in the theaters. I really wasn’t that impressed by any of it. I feel it is really just so overhyped and my mind was saying he spent $250 m We weren’t impressed.illion on this! You have got to be kidding? I hope every one likes alot of blue and greens and other dark colors. There is nothing truly bright about this movie. Just alot of blue and green blurred together. Nothing like a truly BORING makeout scene between two strange looking aliens either. I looked at my husbands face and he laughed and said he had a nightmare with her in it once. Yech!
