Oh, Professor X, what have you gotten yourself into? A healthy drug habit, sex with every women you see, and a royal screwing of your cop career, it would appear. Lionsgate UK has released your first look at the trailer for Jon S. Baird’s “Filth”, starring James McAvoy as the filthy cop of the title, and based on the novel by Irvine Welsh. The film has been in the works for a while, but looks like it’s finally ready for consumption. McAvoy also looks like he went straight from “Welcome to the Punch” to “Filth”, where he plays a cop (with similar facial hair) in both movies.
The trailer for “Filth” is NSFW, with plenty of screwin’, cussin’, and drug doin’ going on, so you might not want to turn up the volume if you’re at work. In fact, if you’re at work, you probably shouldn’t be watching this. What’s wrong with you? You’re stealing company money! Get back to work, you lazy bums! (Or watch anyway. See if I care.)
Scheming Bruce Robertson, a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox, Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?
Also starring Imogen Poots, Jamie Bell, Joanne Froggatt, Eddie Marsan, Emun Elliott, Jim Broadbent, Kate Dickie, and Shirley Henderson.
The UK gets it this September.
