James Spader Will Play (Voice?) Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron

James Spader in The Blacklist

James Spader can next be seen as the villain/anti-hero on a TV show called “The Blacklist”, which I’m actually looking forward to because the premise sounds very cool and Spader looks like he’s on Scenery Chewing Duty throughout the promo trailer (below).

And oh yeah, James Spader has been officially cast in Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”, the sequel to Marvel’s “The Avengers”. You may or may not have heard about that movie. It was kind of a big deal last year.

Ultron Comic BookThe question is: is Spader playing the voice of Ultron, or does the robot villain Ultron have a human alter ego? I don’t recall the character having one, and the trades aren’t saying anything about what kind of role it is, which basically means they don’t know, because trust me, if they knew, they would be blabbing about it.

Even in their official announcement, Marvel isn’t saying what kind of role it is, so I’m guessing … voice?

Spader’s got a very interesting voice, and though he’s packed on a few pounds and lost a few wisps of hair, that voice can still give you chills if he’s putting it to good use — saying, if it were coming out of a killer robot bent on the destruction of mankind.

The plot for “The Avengers” sequel has the Avengers assembling once again to take on Ultron, a killer robot bent on the destruction of mankind and ruling the world and all that Marvel villainy stuff. Just once, I’d like to meet a killer robot that just wants to make me coffee.

The Avengers take on Ultron in two years, May 1, 2015.

Here’s a look at Spader in “The Blacklist” (I’m guessing the show’s big hook is that the FBI girl is his daughter):

Can’t wait for Blacklist, but Spader will rock as voice of Ultron!!!

That trailer up there was the whole first episode.

Pretty SOP. It’s so hard to sell a new show to audiences, nowadays they give away the whole pilot, including all the hook, so you’ll be tempted to watch.

But c’mon…. I can’t remember ever seeing one that, well…complete.

All the extended previews are like that — very spoilery and gives away the whole pilot episode. You might have just seen the smaller 30-second spots.

This seems like an inspired choice to me. I hope they put him in some sort of suit with a little CGI mixed in, like they did with Downey as Iron Man.

I think Downey and Spader starred in one of those late 80′s/early 90′s brat pack movies together.

I think we’ll get performance captrue. Him in a suit would take away from the fact that he is not human and not supposed to be.

i could deal with that…as long as the actors are able to interact with each other…unlike the star wars prequels

Oh, most definitely. Between Amazing Spiderman, OZ, LoTR, The Hobbit, and even John Carter they’ve made it a point to have the actor/actress on set in some way to interact with them for cgi characters.

        I so remember that!

kudos Juggernaut…i vaguely remember watching that movie…might be time for an 80′s movie marathon
