James Spader can next be seen as the villain/anti-hero on a TV show called “The Blacklist”, which I’m actually looking forward to because the premise sounds very cool and Spader looks like he’s on Scenery Chewing Duty throughout the promo trailer (below).
And oh yeah, James Spader has been officially cast in Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”, the sequel to Marvel’s “The Avengers”. You may or may not have heard about that movie. It was kind of a big deal last year.
The question is: is Spader playing the voice of Ultron, or does the robot villain Ultron have a human alter ego? I don’t recall the character having one, and the trades aren’t saying anything about what kind of role it is, which basically means they don’t know, because trust me, if they knew, they would be blabbing about it.
Even in their official announcement, Marvel isn’t saying what kind of role it is, so I’m guessing … voice?
Spader’s got a very interesting voice, and though he’s packed on a few pounds and lost a few wisps of hair, that voice can still give you chills if he’s putting it to good use — saying, if it were coming out of a killer robot bent on the destruction of mankind.
The plot for “The Avengers” sequel has the Avengers assembling once again to take on Ultron, a killer robot bent on the destruction of mankind and ruling the world and all that Marvel villainy stuff. Just once, I’d like to meet a killer robot that just wants to make me coffee.
The Avengers take on Ultron in two years, May 1, 2015.
Here’s a look at Spader in “The Blacklist” (I’m guessing the show’s big hook is that the FBI girl is his daughter):
