James Wan, director of 2011’s surprise hit “Insidious” (made for a meager $1.5 million, the film has grossed $53 million domestically and just south of $76 million worldwide), has signed on to direct another home haunting in “The Conjuring”.
The story is from a pitch by Carey and Chad Hayes, and is “inspired by the supernatural events that happened in the Rhode Island home of the Perron family.”
The article says Wan is a perfect fit for the film, which I take it to mean it’s going to rely mostly on practical effects utilizing a relatively small budget ala “Insidious”.
Peter Safran and Tony DeRosa-Grund are producing.
