Jamie Foxx Confirmed for Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Way to show Hollywood you’ve got the acting chops to pull this off, Jamie Foxx! After Will Smith passed on the project, Quentin Tarantino and The Weinstein Company have found their leading man to star as Django in Tarantino’s spaghetti Western flick, “Django Unchained”.

Foxx will play a freed slave who teams up with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to take on an evil plantation owner in order to retrieve his long-lost love, Broomhilda. For that role, Kerry Washington — who played opposite Foxx in “Ray” — has met with Tarantino, though she’s one of a handful in the mix.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been set to play the sadistic slavemaster Calvin Candie, while Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” star Christoph Waltz will play Django’s friend and mentor. Samuel L. Jackson is also expected to play Stephen, Candie’s right-hand man.

And the cast for this film just keeps getting more and more awesome. The more I hear about it, the more I like it.

Idris Elba was also up for the lead role but with today’s news, we now know he’s passed and will star in Del Toro’s “Pacific Rim”.

And if Foxx ever has a bad day on set, he can always blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol…I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Anyhoo, back on topic: “Django Unchained” will hit theaters Christmas Day 2012.
