Jamie Foxx in Talks to Play Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Electro Comic BookFresh off killing racist white folks in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”, and currently running about the White House as POTUS in Roland Emmerich’s “White House Down”, Jamie Foxx is now shifting gears to comic bookland, with the trades reporting that the actor is “in talks” to play the villain Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″.

The film, a sequel to this year’s hit reboot directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as the wall-crawler, will feature Spidey battling the menace of Electro, an electricity-based villain that hasn’t been used in any of the previous “Spider-Man” films before. In fact, ol Electro has been mostly ignored, but perhaps his time is coming in the sequel.

I guess now we know why he recently tweeted:

In the comics, Electro is Max Dillon, who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Hey, it’s the comic books. Daredevil gets radar powers after being bathed in chemicals, Spidey becomes Spider-Man after getting bit by a radioactive spider, so why not a guy who gets electrical powers after getting zapped by lightning? Makes perfect (comic book) sense.

Garfield and Webb are confirmed back, with Emma Stone also expected to reprise Gwen Stacy. Shailene Woodley is apparently still talking about playing Mary Jane Watson, but that’s not been confirmed yet.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ is already scheduled for Summer 2014.

My sentiments exactly! Marvel really should have cast him as War Machine back when they had to re-cast the part. He’d be a good, older take on Black Panther or a Blade in a reboot but Electro?!?! He’s a good actor and all but I just don’t see it.

i could see him as war machine, hes more along the style that was set with Terence Howard. Don Cheadle played the role way too stuffy in my opinion. Lots of people are saying that race is an issue, but i disagree. Im looking at Foxx’s terrible record in movie making. i mean come on, miami vice? stealth? the kingdom? all awful movies and then theres his singing career! this guy is like a jack of all trades and a master of none.

LOL! I don’t hate jamie Foxx and I don’t really even mind the thought of him as Electro after thinking about it for a few days but I see where you’re coming from. Hey, atleast it isn’t Will Smith!

hahaha o man ya im deff not ready for that casting announcement

As soon as I heard about this I knew there were going to be many comments about jammie fox not being “right” for the role Just because of his skin color.

xenophobia is a problem for some people i guess?

He is perfect for the role. He can do action and he can really act. He has the potential to bring a level of drama like Heath Ledger did for Batman. Now dont get me wrong, I’m not say he will bring a performance like Heath’s Joker. But i mean that caliber actor. Look at the back and forth between Fox and Pacino in Any Given Sunday and you can see what im talking about for all the people who say the acting is bad in action movies. Of course some people will have issues with him being black. First Nick Fury and now this. But remember alot of these characters were written in the 60’s and 70’s and you would never see a person of color being the lead. So its time to update alot of these characters even the villians. Its hard as a person of color to want to teach your child about comics and your little girls about dolls and you have 3 to pick from.

Agreed! Jamie Foxx can do just about everything. If they do this, lets ground it a bit like in Spectacular Spiderman cartoon. He wasn’t struck by lightning, he was an engieer working at Connor’s lab working on the containment tank for some electric eels. they were in a special solution that was designed to absorb the electricity and use it for power. As always there was an accident during a fight with the Lizard and his syrum mixed with the solution and gave electro his powers. They really played him tragic at first, and if they add a lil MTV Spiderman and make him losing control of his powers,to the point where he could disipate it would make him very tragic. i think Foxx can easily pull this off. He’ll look more like his Ultimate version I’m guessing.

That would be the best scenario. Having all of the events and villains tied together is the way to go. That scenario alone could spawn most of Spidey’s villains.
