Fresh off killing racist white folks in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”, and currently running about the White House as POTUS in Roland Emmerich’s “White House Down”, Jamie Foxx is now shifting gears to comic bookland, with the trades reporting that the actor is “in talks” to play the villain Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”.
The film, a sequel to this year’s hit reboot directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as the wall-crawler, will feature Spidey battling the menace of Electro, an electricity-based villain that hasn’t been used in any of the previous “Spider-Man” films before. In fact, ol Electro has been mostly ignored, but perhaps his time is coming in the sequel.
I guess now we know why he recently tweeted:
Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.

In the comics, Electro is Max Dillon, who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. Hey, it’s the comic books. Daredevil gets radar powers after being bathed in chemicals, Spidey becomes Spider-Man after getting bit by a radioactive spider, so why not a guy who gets electrical powers after getting zapped by lightning? Makes perfect (comic book) sense.
Garfield and Webb are confirmed back, with Emma Stone also expected to reprise Gwen Stacy. Shailene Woodley is apparently still talking about playing Mary Jane Watson, but that’s not been confirmed yet.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is already scheduled for Summer 2014.
