So, uh, the premise of “Homefront” is that James Franco is this really bad guy drug dealer, who Jason Statham has to defeat in order to save his family. Let that sink in. James Franco is playing the evil villain in an action movie starring Statham. This might just result in the worst final battle on film since Joaquin Phoenix’s sister lovin’ Emperor tried to beat Russell Crowe’s Maximum Super Gladiatorous in “Gladiator”.
But hey, I guess that’s why they call it make believe, am I right?
The film in question will be called “Homefront”, and in it, Statham will play Phil Broker, “an ex-DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town hoping to escape his past. However, he finds the town to be overrun with violence, drug traffickers and an evil meth magnate named Gator. To save his endangered family, retribution is now the only thing Broker seeks.”
James Franco will play the “evil meth magnate” who goes by the awesome name of Gator.
“Homefront” is moving pretty fast, with Gary Fleder (“Don’t Say a Word”, “Runaway Jury”) already set to direct from a script by Statham’s “The Expendables” co-star Sylvester Stallone. Millennium Films are footing the bill, while Stallone will also produce.
Production commences this September in New Orleans.
James Franco, meanwhile, is playing a tough guy with cornrows in his next movie, “Spring Breakers”. Compared to Selena Gomez, who co-stars in the film, I can see how Franco might be intimidating. Compared to Statham? I gotta see this…
