It figures that the Powers That Be would end up giving Jason Statham’s latest movie, the Steven Knight actioner “Hummingbird” a very Jason Statham-esque name like “Redemption”. (Personally, I thought the film’s other International title, “Crazy Joe”, was kinda cool.) Along with a new title, Roadside Attractions has released a new poster (above), a new (or at least, new-ish) trailer (below), and a release date that will put the film on VOD and theaters at the same time.
Sure, it looks a lot like your average Jason Statham movie, but if you’re a fan of that, then this should really go over well. If not? Oh well, you can always wait for “The Expendables 3″, I guess.
Reeling from a traumatic tour of duty in Afghanistan, Joey (Jason Statham), an ex-Special Forces soldier, returns to London to face another kind of war: life on the streets as a damaged, homeless veteran. In an attempt to rehabilitate himself, Joey assumes another man’s identity and seeks the aid of Sister Cristina (Agata Buzek), a young nun who works at an inner-city parish. But Joey’s expert training as a soldier marks him as a valuable asset, and he soon finds himself caught in the dark web of London’s criminal underworld. Struggling to keep hold of his integrity, Joey offers his profits to those who need it most. But when he learns his missing girlfriend was brutally murdered by a ruthless kingpin, he risks everything for bloody revenge, hurtling down a deadly path that promises to destroy him completely…or be his last and only hope at redemption.
“Redemption” also stars Vicky McClure, Benedict Wong, Siobhan Hewlett, David Bradley, and Christian Brassington.
The Stath busts heads on VOD and in theaters this June 28, 2013, so it looks like Roadside Attractions isn’t rolling this thing out very wide.
