We’ve known that Javier Bardem has been circling the juicy role of Roland Deschain in Ron Howard’s adaptation of “The Dark Tower” for a while now, and that the studio wants him to do it and has even offered him the gig. I would have personally preferred Viggo Mortensen, who was also up for the role, mainly because he just looks the part. Alas, that wasn’t to be.
Now it looks like Bardem has accepted the offer, and is said to be “close” to signing on the dotted line to play the mythical gunslinger in the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s series of fantasy novels.
Howard’s “The Dark Tower”, scheduled for sometime in 2013, is expected to be the first movie in a franchise that will include an ongoing TV series. No word if Bardem will star in the series as well, though that seems unlikely.
