Javier Bardem Will Indeed Star in The Dark Tower

We’ve known that Javier Bardem has been circling the juicy role of Roland Deschain in Ron Howard’s adaptation of “The Dark Tower” for a while now, and that the studio wants him to do it and has even offered him the gig. I would have personally preferred Viggo Mortensen, who was also up for the role, mainly because he just looks the part. Alas, that wasn’t to be.

Now it looks like Bardem has accepted the offer, and is said to be “close” to signing on the dotted line to play the mythical gunslinger in the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s series of fantasy novels.

Howard’s “The Dark Tower”, scheduled for sometime in 2013, is expected to be the first movie in a franchise that will include an ongoing TV series. No word if Bardem will star in the series as well, though that seems unlikely.

I agree, I personally think Viggo not only looks the part but embodies the character. just look at Hidalgo. But bardem is good, and I’m sure he’ll do a good job. I’m thinking the TV show will center less around Roland than the world itself.

There is so much to explore that I really wasn’t syre how they’d do this. The movie/Tv series is a new and cool idea. Although getting Bardem or any other big name Hollywood actors to show up on the series will be difficult. Not to say that there aren’t a lot of movie stars on TV these days, but it will be a difficult and expensive sell! Looking forward to seeing how this all shakes out. With King and Howard adapting it I’m sure it will be cool.

Yeah they have great people behind this. I also agree the film/tv thing is a great idea. The tv show could cover the stuff they’re doing in the comics and the films could cover the books. If this is done on cable like FX, A&E, or Starz they could make it epic. Also I don’t see Bardem doing TV either but that doesnt mean I dont see them getting another A-lister for the show.

I love Javier Bardem, I really do, however I was also waiting for Viggo Mortensen to play the part.
