JCVD vs. Scott Adkins vs. Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning Trailer

Jean Claude Van Damme and Scott Adkins in Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning (2012) Movie Image

I haven’t really been keeping up with the “Universal Soldier” franchise, but I have seen probably most of them, including director Peter Hyam’s last film in the series, “Universal Soldier: Regeneration”, which was surprisingly decent. That movie featured Jean-Claude Van Damme as the hero, with Dolph Lundgren appearing later in the movie. This latest one, “Universal Solder: Day of Reckoning” features JCVD as … the bad guy? With Dolph at his side? Versus Scott Adkins? I have absolutely no idea. I’m not sure if they’re still even working within the “Universal Soldier” canon, though JCVD seems to be sporting the same character name. In any case, love the totally “so ’80s” voiceover work.

Surviving Unisols Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) and Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) must battle anarchy and build a new order ruled by Unisols without government oversight. They are weeding out the weak and constantly testing their strongest warriors in brutal, life-and-death combat. Luc has emerged operating the Unisol Church of Eventualism, a self-help organization that takes in wayward Unisols whom the government has been secretly operating as remote-controlled sleeper agents. His mission is to liberate these Unisols from the implanted memories and the lies the government has inserted in them.

The film also stars Kristopher Van Varenberg, Mariah Bonner, and Andrei Arlovski. According to IMDB.com, the film is scheduled to for this November 30th, 2012, likely on DVD/Blu-ray.

JOHN HYAMS (the director) has been quoted saying that this film does follow US:R, picking up several years later, with Luc Deveraux seemingly gone all Col. Kurtz. However, DOLPH LUNDGREN and ANDREI ARLOVSKI’s appearences are rather odd since both of their characters were killed by JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME in the previous film. Then again, if you factor in the cloning angle from that film, it’s totally possible.

      Exactly. Rogue Decareux clone maybe?

It’s possible, but I don’t think so. Remember, in US:R Deveraux had spent the past 20 years trying to be rehabilitated from the effects of the program; only for them to kidnap him, jack him up full of super soldier drugs and send him in to fight a small army and TWO other Unisols. I think it’s safe to say that after he ran off and disappeared at the end, he prolly said “enough is enough” and started building his anti-government Unisol army to personally take down the program……

Whatever the story..it’s good to see JCVD trying to establish Adkins as a legit hero..from the first movie they starred together..he has been giving him more footage and scope with every movie..I think Scott Adkins deserves better roles..where he is required to do more things than just grimace and kick..
