Despite the fact that he’s been mired in direct-to-DVD land for the last decade or so, there’s no denying it, of all the former A-list action heroes of the ’80s and ’90s, Van Damme has consistently put out the best products of the Seagals and Snipes of the world. All that work seems to have paid off, and the Muscles from Brussels can next be seen menacing his buddy Sylvester Stallone and a legion of good guys in “The Expendables 2”. But to hear Van Damme tell it, he wouldn’t mind re-visiting a certain pair of twins from his ’90s glory days too, if someone is interested in packaging the movie.
Van Damme tells the boys at Next Movie:
Double Impact’ [would be] a great franchise. Today, Chad would be like the guy in ‘JCVD’ and Alex would be the guy like ‘The Expendables.’
I came up with a great story set in Los Angeles. [Chad] is a producer, making pictures with a big house behind him. Alex is gonna go on vacation and has some problems with the Triads. Why? Because Chad went to Hong Kong and to get some loan money using [Alex’s] face, all of that bulls**t. And Alex comes [to Los Angeles] to see Chad and he’s full of s**t, has a girl pregnant, and she’s the sister of the big boss from South Central. It’s like ‘Double Impact’ in Los Angeles.
This is not the first time Van Damme has talked publicly about his desire to revisit Chad and Alex. He spoke about this same story idea about two years earlier, but no one bit.
Will it ever get made? Who knows.
In the meantime, Van Damme still has the “Universal Soldier” franchise to fall back on. The latest one, since retitled “Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning” (formerly “Universal Soldier: A New Dimension), is due later this year, and will co-star Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins.
