You can add former Bond wingman Jeffrey Wright to the growing cast of Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, their upcoming 2013 sequel to this year’s hit movie that should be gearing up for production very soon, with Jennifer Lawrence back as its spunky female lead.
The very eclectic (and of course, uber talented) Wright will play Beetee, a District 3 former Games winner who “earns the nickname ‘Volts’ because of his electronics expertise.” Along with other former Hunger games winners, Beetee has to survive yet another trip into the Hunger Games.
This won’t be a one-shot deal for Wright, because Beetee is a crucial character in “Catching Fire”, and continues to be so in the now two-parter “Mockingjay”.
Set for November 22, 2013, “Catching Fire” will find Katniss Everdeen returning home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Francis Lawrence is directing.
