Jeremy Renner is one popular fella. Thanks to his breakthrough role in Katheryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker”, he’s now Paramount’s hand-picked successor to Tom Cruise in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise (starting with the fourth one). And now it looks like Universal wants to get in on the Renner Lottery: the studio has hand-picked Renner to front their “Bourne Legacy”, their Matt Damon-less continuation of the box office busting “Bourne” franchise.
Deadline reports that Renner has been officially offered the role and is expected to “sign on quickly”. Like Damon’s Bourne before him, Renner’s character, named Martin, will “play an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.”
If the “M:I” and “Bourne” franchises weren’t enough, Renner’s also got a notable role in Marvel’s “The Avengers” coming up, and subsequent possible Hawkeye stand-alone movies. Question is, where will get all the time to do Marvel’s films with two franchises to front? Your guess is as good as mine.
