Now that’s something you don’t hear everyday: “a magic heist film”. But that’s pretty much the plot of “Clash of the Titans” director Louis Leterrier’s latest, “Now You See Me”, which will pit a group of criminals who also masquerades as illusionists against a crack FBI unit determined to stop their crime spree.
The catch? The bad guys are said to “shower their profits” on their audience, which I take it to mean they’re like Robin Hood or something. Who knows, maybe the audience is full of cancer patients and such. Or I could be wrong and the criminals could just be douches who like stealing stuff from other people.
Anyways, the first casting news from Variety has Jesse Eisenberg (“The Social Network”) and Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to take major leads in the film. I’m guessing Eisenberg will be one of the magician criminals, with Gyllenhaal as one of the FBI agents, if not the head honcho. Look at them — one guy just looks like a punk criminal and the other one a G-man type.
Besides the two leading men, the Summit film also has its eye on “Inglourious Basterds'” Melanie Laurent (top, left), who is said to have been offered a role in the film.
Leterrier will direct from a script by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt, with the ubiquitous duo of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci producing.
