Don’t you just hate it when you go into a hospital for surgery, they put you under and start cutting you open, only you AREN’T “under”, but is in fact wide awake and can feel and see everything happening to you? Yeah, I hate it when that happens to me, too. That’s the premise of the new Jessica Alba movie “Awake”, not to be confused with the new Jessica Alba movie “The Eye”, where she gets new eyes through surgery. This time around, the person going under the knife is Hayden Christensen, who plays Alba’s fiance in the movie, with Terrence Howard playing the doctor who needs to go get his medical degree check out for the FUBAR — that is, unless he’s in on the whole thing. Oops.
During surgery, more than 60,000 people domestically each year experience “anesthetical awareness,” a condition when anesthesia fails during surgery, leaving one completely conscious and feeling every incision, but paralyzed and incapable of doing anything about it. This is what happens to Clay.
Starring Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba, Lena Olin, Terrence Howard, Sam Robards, and directed by Joby Harold.
Hate your doctor November 30th, 2007.
