The ever-busy “Tree of Life” and “The Debt” actress has been attached to yet another role, this time as Princess Diana in a new movie called “Caught in Flight”. The project was announced over at the American Film Market, with Chastain starring as Diana and Oliver Hirschbiegel, the man single-handedly responsible for what must be the most ludicrous and yet awesome Youtube meme of all time, directing. (Type “Hitler Downfall” into your YouTube search engine if you don’t know what I’m talking about.)
The film will chronicle the 2-year love affair by a then-divorced Princess Diana and heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn, said to be the love of her life. The couple eventually broke up and Diana moved on to Dodi Al-Fayed, who died with her in the 1997 car crash. Spoiler?
Production is expected to start in March 2012. That is, if it actually happens. As I said previously, a lot of films get announced at AFM, but not all of them actually happens.
With an expected $15 million budget, “Caught in Flight” certainly won’t be the biggest budgeted film Chastain has worked on in recent years. After starring in a whopping seven films in 2011, Chastain only has 2 (now 3, with “Caught in Flight”) planned for 2012, and one for 2013. Then again, the year is still young, and I suspect that “3” number in 2012 to climb.
