The suddenly very ubiquitous Jessica Chastain has landed one of the two main female leads in Tom Cruise’s sci-fi actioner “Horizons” (aka “Oblivion”, aka “Whatever the hell they end up calling it a year from now”), beating out fellow Hollywood starlets Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling, and Noomi Rapace. Though I suppose the other three women could eventually land the film’s other female lead.
The untitled sci-fi film was created and will be directed by “Tron: Legacy’s” Joseph Kosinski, and is “a love story taking place in an apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds since the Earth is no longer habitable. A Earthbound repairman whose job it is to work on drones that fight alien life forms meets a woman who forces him to question his world view.”
As one of the female leads, Chastain will play Cruise’s lover and partner, “who tethers him to the world above the clouds while he’s doing repairwork. She becomes none-too-happy when she discovers he has fallen for anther woman.”
Chastain is on one hell of a roll, and is quickly approaching Sam Worthington territory when it comes to making the most of her suddenly red-hot stardom. The redhead’s name is popping up seemingly for every available role in Hollywood over the last year or so, with six films in 2011, and four coming up in 2012, and the year isn’t over yet…
