Jet Li may have sworn off wuxia for good, but that doesn’t mean he still isn’t kicking a whole lotta ass in his movies. His latest is a collaboration with Jason Statham (of “Transporter” and “Crank” fame) as the two go head-to-head in “War”, formerly called “Rogue”. (I personally liked “Rogue” better, but maybe they changed it because of that killer croc movie by “Wolf Creek’s” Greg McLean.) Whatever the case, the trailer for the film is here, and they sure are using up the word “war” like it’s going out of style, that’s for sure. First impression: Damn, that’s a lot of fighting!
After his partner Tom Wynne (Terry Chen) and family are killed apparently by the infamous and elusive assassin Rogue (Jet Li), FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) becomes obsessed with revenge as his world unravels into a vortex of guilt and betrayal. Rogue eventually resurfaces to settle a score of his own, setting off a bloody crime war between Asian mob rivals Chang (John Lone) of the Triad’s and Yakuza boss Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi). When Jack and Rogue finally come face to face, the ultimate truth of their pasts will be revealed.
Starring Jet Li, Jason Statham, Devon Aoki, Nicholas Elia, Luis Guzman and directed by MTV music video vet Philip G. Atwell. There is no release date for “War” aka “Rogue” just yet.
