Jet Li and Natalie Portman in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Kung Fu Movie?

Asian Movie News, Snow and the Seven Movie — By Nix on July 17, 2007

This sounds so improbable it’s probably true. First of all, you gotta understand that taking everything these Asian online news sites say at full face value is like taking what we movie bloggers say at full face value — it just ain’t a good idea! We like to speculate, we like to guess, and we are constantly wrong. (Hey, I can admit it. It’s not like I have a journalism degree to defend, and you should know that.) So what should you be skeptical about? This report from CRIEnglish that Jet Li is set to join Natalie Portman in a futuristic, sci-fi (I think) version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” — with kung fu. I absolutely, positively kid you not.

The report said the film is an adaptation of Disney’s classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. It is set thousands of years after the original Snow White story, when the princess has reincarnated into a young woman, played by Natalie Portman.

Her evil stepmother wants to collect the seven pieces of her magic mirror to resume her power.

The Shaolin temple in central China, which has been protecting the mirror for thousands of years, sends seven warriors, led by Jet Li, to protect the mirror and the young woman.

Sources say the movie has a budget of 70 million US dollars and might be made by martial arts choreographer and film director Yuen Woo-ping.

I mean, come ON. Right? Right?

First of all, I don’t know if Natalie Portman would get involved in a movie like this. I mean, kung fu Shaolin monks and the seven dwarfs? Seriously? (Well, there were those awful “Star Wars” movies…)

But hey, if I’m wrong, and this movie does end up getting made, wouldn’t it be pretty cool? In a freaky, “Jesus, what were they thinking” sort of way?

hmmm… well the storyline does seem kind of reasonable with the broken seven peices of the mirror and having the noble chinese to protect it from evil. this could be a good movie, knowing that director Yuen Woo-ping is directing it.

I’m sure that rumors have already been confirmed about the making of this film, but Natalie Portman just confirmed that she was offered this part, and that apparently the movie is being made with Jet Li’s involvement. However, she said that she had turned it down and was not interested in it. She was asked this during an appearance on the Conan O’Brien show.
