It’s nice to be wanted. Jim Carrey’s biggest gripe with New Line and the whole “Dumb and Dumber 2” debacle was that no one was moving fast enough on the film, almost as if they didn’t want to make the sequel. He was a tad miffed by that. Why, you’d almost think he took it as a personal slight. (Actors with egos? Perish the thought!)
So when the producers of “Kick-Ass 2” pursued him to play The Colonel last month, I’m sure Carrey was very pleased. And after some thinking it over (I guess), the actor has said Yes to the role, and will be officially joining the cast of “Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall”.
Carrey, who is no stranger to the “Kick-Ass” universe (or, er, costumes) will play The Colonel, a character who “helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil.” Remember, no one in the “Kick-Ass” universe actually have powers*, so these are all just regular folks looking to do some damage. (My guess is that most of them end up dead. Or dead-ish. That’s usually how Mark Millar’s comics work.)
(*True, no one in the “Kick-Ass” universe actually have powers, but let’s face it, Hit-Girl mind as well have powers the way she runs through bad guys. There is just no basis in reality for that character whatsoever.)
Carrey joins returning castmembers Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicolas Cage in the film. Yes, Nicolas Cage is apparently also back. Even death can’t stop the Cagester, you should know that by now.
Jeff Wadlow will take over directing chores on “Kick-Ass 2”, with original director Matthew Vaughn staying on to produce. Wadlow also wrote the script.
