J.J. Abrams Talks Cloverfield 2

We know it’s coming, mostly because the original made so much money ($160-plus worldwide and counting), and in Hollywood, money talks and you know what walks — and doesn’t get a sequel. But can a sequel possibly top the first? Probably not, but that’s not going to stop J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company from unleashing “Cloverfield 2″ onto the now-suspecting populace, and recently Abrams talked a bit about the upcoming sequel.
Word from the big kahuna himself is that the original duo behind the first “Cloverfield”, Drew Goddard (writer) and Matt Reeves (director) have ideas for a sequel, which, according to Abrams, may be shot in the same style as the first ala as seen through a handheld camera.
This would seem to jive with earlier reports that had Reeves indicating that a possible sequel would be based on the same events as the first, only seen from another perspective — i.e. someone else’s camcorder. One would hope the sequel’s POV would extend the movie beyond what we’ve already seen, and not just be a replay of the first.
But hey, don’t take my word for it. Hear what Abrams has to say for yourself, courtesy of G4. (And oh yeah, Abrams also talks about something called “Star Trek” and Lost. Whatever those are.)
