Now that he’s lost out on directing a reboot of “Daredevil”, Joe Carnahan is setting his sights on the comic book horror title “Undying Love” instead. Well, calling this “horror” is a bit deceptive. Sure, it has vampires, but so do the “Twilight” movies, and they aren’t really horror, are they? Likewise with “Undying Love”, which is more of an action movie that just happens to have vampires, sort of like the “Underworld” films.
Carnahan, who last helmed the survival flick “The Grey” with Liam Neeson, has signed on to write and direct a big-screen version of “Undying Love”, to be based on the comic book series by Tomm Coker.
The title follows a Special Forces soldier who falls for a pretty female vampire (are there any other kind?), and takes it upon himself to save her. To do that, he’ll have to slay her creator — a Chinese vampire who also happens to be a Hong Kong crime kingpin. Yeah, it’s gonna be a rough mission for our SF badass, but luckily he’s up to the task.
Last we heard on the adaptation, “Piranha 3D’s” Alexandre Aja was in talks to direct. Apparently that didn’t work out, and Carnahan is now in.
